Craig Dorety -- Gradient

01
Title: Motion Projector
Dimensions: 11" X 1" X 5"
Medium: Aluminum, Stainless Steel, PVC, Custom Electronics, Space-Time drawing.
Description: This work has a forward visual component comprising of a recessed circle, illuminated by moving light, and a rear component of shifting patterns of light cast onto the wall. The shifting motion is created by the relationship of light-to-stencil-to-wall: the principle of parallax.

Title: Black Hole Radiator
Dimensions: 20" Diam X 5"
Medium: Aluminum, Wood, 3d Printed Plastic, Custom Electronics
Description: This work has a rear-facing componet of shifting, colored light. The shifting motion is created by the relationship of light-to-stencil-to-wall: the principle of parallax.

Title: A Moon and Many Stars
Dimensions: 84" X 48" X 11"
Medium: High Density Urethane, Plywood, Custom Electronics, Lunar Data
Description: This work is a large-scale digital carving of actual lunar topography attained from NASA's LOLA mission (laser altimiter). By adding dynamic lighting across the carved surface, a shifting perspective is provided to the viewer. It is as if this moon was tumbling in space with respect to several stars.

Title: Offset Squares -- Cherry Blossoms
Dimensions: 36" X 36" X 3"
Medium: Aluminum, PVC, Custom Electronics, Abstracted Digital Imagery
Description: This artwork is comprised of 11 layers: 5 LED layers that create a shaded space for light, and 6 layers of painted surfaces. Each layer contains a number of programmable color LEDs. The LEDs are animated by color information from a digital photograph.

05
Title: Lunar Interval 1
Dimensions: 18" Diam X 2"
Medium: Aluminum, Plywood, Custom Electronics
Description: This work is a digital carving of actual lunar topography attained from NASA's LOLA mission (laser altimiter). By adding dynamic lighting across the carved surface, a shifting perspective is provided to the viewer. It is as if this moon was tumbling in space with respect to several stars.

06
Title: Parallax
Dimensions: 9" X 9" X 4"
Medium: Aluminum, PVC, Custom Electronics, Space-Time Drawing
Description: This work explores the principle of parallax by placing two successive stencils in front of an LED array. The light from the LEDs shines through the stencils and is incident on specially treated glass. The result is like an ever shifting stained glass window that appears to melt or bend.
